Have you ever been so thirsty and when you drink water, it feels like the best thing you have ever drunk? It means you’ve been dehydrated.

Hydration is replenishing the lack of water in the body. The body is mostly compared to water. Good hydration is one of the most important aspects of the diet.

People at risk of dehydration are

  1. Babies

  2. Older people

  3. Athletes

  4. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers

  5. People with long-term health conditions e.g Diabetes Mellitus.

The common signs and symptoms of dehydration are:

  1. Muscle cramps

  2. Confusion

  3. Rapid pulses

  4. Headaches

  5. Dry mouth

  6. Dizziness

Importance of Good Hydration

  1. Regulates body temperature

  2. Delivers nutrients to cells

  3. Keeps organ functioning properly

  4. Removes wastes from the body through urination, sweats, etc.

  5. Keeps skin healthy

  6. Help relieve constipation

  7. Help treat kidney stones

  8. Keeps the joint lubricated.

Staying hydrated can be in the form of:

  1. Water and other fluids

  2. Fruits and vegetables
